Iceland 2 aurar 1938 coin

This is an Icelandic 2 aurar coin dated 1938, issued during the reign of King Christian X (as King of Iceland under the Danish union until 1944). Struck in bronze (copper alloy), it weighs approximately 2 grams and measures 19 mm in diameter with a reeded edge.

  • Obverse: Crowned monogram of King Christian X (interlaced “C” and Roman numeral “X” beneath a crown), flanked by the split date “19” and “38”. Encircling legend “ÍSLANDS KONUNGUR” (King of Iceland). Mint marks include “HCN” (mint master Hans Christian Nielsen) and “GJ” (engraver Gunnar Jensen) from the Copenhagen Mint.
  • Reverse: Large denomination “2” in the center flanked by floral ornaments, with “ÍSLAND” above and “AURAR” below.

The coin belongs to the series KM# 3 (minted 1925–1942), part of Iceland’s early decimal coinage under the Danish crown (100 aurar = 1 króna). It is a common but classic minor denomination reflecting Iceland’s pre-independence monetary system.

A solid entry-level piece for collectors of Icelandic coinage, Scandinavian minors, Christian X issues, or pre-WWII Nordic numismatics.
