This is a commemorative postcard issued by Skáksamband Íslands (Icelandic Chess Federation) for the 1972 World Chess Championship match in Reykjavík. The front features black line-art caricatures of the six members of the federation’s 1972 board, each signed in facsimile:

  • Guðlaugur Guðmundsson
  • Friðrik Ólafsson
  • Guðjón Guðmundsson
  • Guðlaugur Guðmundsson
  • Práinn Guðmundsson
  • Ásgeir Friðjónsson

Text above reads “Stjórn Skáksambands Íslands 1972” (Board of the Icelandic Chess Federation 1972). Below is the federation logo and “Upplag: 2000 Nr. 0573” (Edition: 2000 No. 0573).

The back includes the 15 króna stamp (chessboard globe design) cancelled with the Reykjavík 31.VIII.1972 postmark in the circular “HEIMSMEISTARAEINHVIGI Í SKÁK” cancellation. Additional text lists the board members in Icelandic and English: “STJÓRN SKÁKSAMBANDS ÍSLANDS 1972 / THE DIRECTING BOARD OF I.C.F. 1972” with names. The postcard was drawn by Halldór Pétursson.

Edition size is 2000 copies. A rare philatelic and chess federation souvenir from the event.
