Iceland 1972 Fischer Spassky new king cover
This is a commemorative cover issued for the 1972 World Chess Championship match in Reykjavík between Bobby Fischer (USA) and Boris Spassky (USSR). The front features a red line-art caricature cachet titled “The New King of Chess” showing a crowned king in regal robes holding a scepter and globe, with a small jester-like figure (representing Spassky) pulling the king’s long cape.
