Iceland 25 aurar 1942 coin
This is an Icelandic 25 aurar coin dated 1942, issued during the reign of King Christian X (as King of Iceland under the Danish union). Struck in zinc at the Copenhagen Mint, it weighs 2 grams and measures 16 mm in diameter.
- Obverse: Crowned monogram of King Christian X (interlaced “C” and Roman numeral “X” beneath a crown), flanked by the split date “19” and “42”. Encircling legend “ÍSLANDS KONUNGUR” (King of Iceland). Mint marks include “HCN” (mint master Hans Christian Nielsen) and “GJ” (engraver Gunnar Jensen).
- Reverse: Large denomination “25” in the center flanked by floral ornaments, with “ÍSLAND” above and “AURAR” below.
The coin belongs to the series KM# 2a, minted in 1942 as part of Iceland’s decimal coinage under the Danish crown (100 aurar = 1 króna). It is the zinc variant issued during WWII.
