Iceland Landsbjörg matchbox

This is a vintage promotional matchbox issued by Slysavarnarfélagið Landsbjörg (Icelandic Civil Defence / National Rescue Association, affiliated with the Red Cross). The box is red with white and yellow printing. The front features the Red Cross emblem (white cross in red circle) and text “SLYSAVARNAFÉLAGIÐ LANDSBJÖRG”. The side reads “ÁTTAKSVERKEFNIÐ ‘LOKUM HRINGNUM’” (“Campaign ‘Close the Circle’”) and “BJÖRGUNARSKIPAN UM LAND ALLT” (“Rescue System Nationwide”).

The box contains original matches (black stems, orange/red tips). These matchboxes were distributed during safety and emergency preparedness campaigns in Iceland..
